Scalp Micropigmentation is the injection or tattooing of color pigments into the upper dermis layer of the skin, specifically into the natural hair follicles, and appear as tiny dots. The procedure is one of the most cost-effective, and optimal solutions for disguising hair loss, adding density to thinning hair, and camouflaging scars.
Scalp Micropigmentation is suitable for both men, and women, all ages (under 18 with parental consent), all skin types, skin colors, and all forms of hair loss issues, or scarring.
A regular tattoo uses larger needles, and injects large amounts of ink into the skin’s dermis, whereas Scalp Micropigmentation is the injection of tiny amounts of natural, FDA-approved, organic dyes into tiny hair follicles to create the illusion of natural hair like a recently shaved scalp.
Scalp Micropigmentation is one of the most natural looking hair replacement solutions on the market. In fact, many clients have indicated that they have trouble distinguishing where their real hairline ends and where the pigmented hair follicles begin. It even feels real to the touch!
That depends. Here at Medi Ink Scalp and Body, our technicians believe that everyone is unique and every head is too. On average, it takes three sessions for a mainly bald head, each session lasting about 3-4 hours, and with a waiting period of 1 week between each session. Each subsequent session adds density and color, until the desired result is achieved. Depending on the issue, the number of sessions can range from one to four.
Prices range on average between $1500.00 and $4,000.00, but simpler issues like scar camouflage will be less, while severe hair loss, severe scarring, and skin issues may be more.
Our Micropigmentation Specialists have completed an advanced certified training course and carry insurance. You are even given the option to discuss your concerns in a private consultation with a physician for an additional fee.
Our Micropigmentation Specialists adhere to the highest standards of infection control. We use sterile materials and equipment, including medical gloves, and single use needles that are disposed of immediately after use in a sharps container.
On the pain scale from 1-10, clients report mild discomfort levels of between 1-3. Clients are permitted to take over-the-counter paracetamol or ibuprofen an hour before treatment, and in addition, a topical anesthetic can be applied to the area before treatment.
No, you can resume most activities after each treatment, but it is important to follow all the after-care instructions provided by your technician, like not exercising, shaving, or washing your scalp for 5 days after treatment, as well as using sunscreen. It takes at least 3 days for the pigment to set into scalp follicles. You will see the pigment-filled follicle sites harden, “scab over,” and fade away within 5-7 days after treatment with proper exfoliation of the area, as per your after-care instructions.
You will notice a visible hairline immediately after your first treatment accompanied by some redness, which only lasts a couple of days. Each subsequent session adds color, coverage, and density to your hairline, resulting in a gradual, natural, and attractive look. The final color will fade over four weeks after treatment to the intended shade.
To maintain the freshly shaven look, every 2-3 days, and it is important to use sunscreen on your scalp.
Although, with proper maintenance your Scalp Micropigmentation is meant to last a lifetime, you may need a touch-up every 3-6 years, especially if there is additional hair loss or grey hair growth. Touch-ups are billed at an hourly rate of $450.00 an hour, but packages may be available at the time of inquiry. Touch-ups take anywhere from 1-4 hours depending, on the work required. The good news is our technicians seamlessly blend the pigment into your existing hairline so that future hair loss, or increased grey will be less noticeable.
Don’t worry! Our skilled and experience technicians will use a wax pencil to collaboratively design and depict your ideal hairline. Some clients want an edgy, sharply defined hairline, while others prefer a softer, slightly receding look. The first treatment will be comprised of softer lines that can be adjusted according to your specifications as the treatments proceed.
Yes! We can help camouflage most forms of scars, no matter what the cause, as well as birthmarks. In fact, we recommend clients who have had hair replacement procedures done in the past (e.g. Strip/Punch/FUE/FUT) undergo Scalp Micropigmentation as well, in order to add density and enhance your look even more.
